Ruth Roman is the youngest child born to Lithuanian and Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold (Gold) & Abraham Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. Her father, a carnival barker, died at the age of a tiny child, forcing her mother to help support the family by working as a waitress and cleaning woman. Ruth grew in a poor Boston tenement community in Massachusetts. She went to school there. But she only stayed in school for a couple of years, then taking a break to pursue her acting career. Her path did not come without challenges. When she was in New York, her first assignment was to shoot stills in crime magazines. the theatre work that she longed for was not available. The following job she got was an "hat check" woman at a nightclub but she quit and moved back to Boston. The city of Boston was in which she was employed during the evening as an actor for the New England Repertory Company and during the day as an usherette. In addition, she was a drama student and eventually graduated from the Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
